16. How to change FOV (Field Of View) and FPS + Fix Widescreen issue?

Image

This FAQ also helps fixing the BF1942 Game display for those who have widescreen monitor.

First of all, please note that the BF1942 uploaded in game files has widescreen support already! So you can choose from any all available resolutions for your display!

To be able to edit .con files, firstly, YOU NEED TO GIVE "FULL CONTROL" TO THE C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942 FOLDER!

RIGHT CLICK ON THE BATTLEFIELD 1942 FOLDER, PROPERTIES, SECURITY, THEN "EDIT" AND TICK FULL CONTROL FOR EVERY ENTITY! (Administrators, Users, Owner, TrustedInstaller etc..)

Video to explain and show! Watch in 720p and full screen!

After you have done this, navigate to ..\..\battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom and open the f Baile Video.con in notepad. Write in your preferred resolution with this line:

game.setGameDisplayMode [resolution] [bitcolor] [refreshrate]

Example:

game.setGameDisplayMode 1440 900 32 60

navigate to Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings and open up VideoDefault.con in notepad. Unlock your fps with this line:

renderer.lockfps [fps number]

and you can change your aspect ratio with this line:

renderer.fieldOfView [number to the desired ratio]

Change to suit your aspect ratio:

1 for standard 4:3 monitor.
1.33333 for 16:9
1.25 for 15:9
1.2 for 16:10

Make both con files "read only" in properties!

Be advised that the screen will look like This with high aspect ratio! There can be more and larger "holes" even in the sides at higher resolutions! You need to experiment with this by yourself, to find the best display!
